Teddy Pendergrass was an American singer and songwriter, born on March 26, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He first gained fame as the lead singer of the R&B group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s, known for hits such as "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "The Love I Lost." Pendergrass later embarked on a successful solo career, releasing hit songs like "Close the Door," "Turn Off the Lights," and "Love T.K.O."


Pendergrass was known for his powerful and soulful voice, often referred to as the "King of R&B." He achieved great success in the music industry and was a prominent figure in the Philadelphia soul scene. Despite a tragic car accident in 1982 that left him paralyzed from the waist down, Pendergrass continued to record music and inspire audiences with his resilience. He passed away on January 13, 2010, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of R&B music.
