Teena Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956, was an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She was known for her distinctive voice and a fusion of R&B, soul, funk, and pop music. Marie began her music career in the late 1970s and gained popularity with her debut album "Wild and Peaceful" in 1979. She achieved mainstream success with hits like "Lovergirl," "Square Biz," and "Fire and Desire," a duet with mentor Rick James.


Marie released a total of 13 studio albums throughout her career, with several of them reaching the top of the R&B charts. She was also a talented musician, playing multiple instruments including guitar, bass, and keyboards. Teena Marie received several Grammy Award nominations during her career and was known for her powerful performances and dynamic stage presence. She passed away on December 26, 2010, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneer for female artists in the music industry.
