Artist Bio:
Teena Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956, was an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She was known for her distinctive voice and blending of R&B, soul, funk, and gospel music in her work. Marie was signed to Motown Records in the late 1970s and released her debut album, "Wild and Peaceful," in 1979. She achieved commercial success with hits like "Lovergirl," "Square Biz," and "Fire and Desire," a duet with Rick James. Marie was also a talented musician, playing multiple instruments such as guitar, keyboards, and congas.

Throughout her career, Teena Marie received four Grammy Award nominations and released 13 studio albums. She was one of the few white artists to find success in the traditionally black-dominated genres of R&B and soul music. Marie's music and artistry continue to influence contemporary artists and fans alike. Tragically, she passed away on December 26, 2010, at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy of pioneering music that transcended racial boundaries.
