The group consisted of members Lowman "Pete" Pauling, Jimmy Moore, Obadiah Carter, Otto Jeffries, and Johnny Tanner. They were known for their unique blend of gospel-influenced harmonies, energetic rhythm and blues music, and innovative songwriting.
The "5" Royales achieved success with hits such as "Dedicated to the One I Love" and "Think." Their music had a significant impact on the development of soul music and influenced artists like James Brown, Ray Charles, and Eric Clapton. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 for their contributions to the genre.
