The Band was a Canadian-American rock group formed in 1967. The members were Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson. They were known for their unique blend of rock, folk, country, and blues music, which they referred to as "Americana." The Band gained popularity for their intricate vocal harmonies and skilled musicianship, with each member playing multiple instruments.

Their debut album, "Music from Big Pink," was released in 1968 and received critical acclaim. They followed it up with the influential album "The Band" in 1969, which included songs like "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek." The Band's music was characterized by its storytelling lyrics and rootsy sound, and they became known for their live performances as well. The Band continued to release albums and tour throughout the 1970s before disbanding in 1976. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
