The Bar-Kays are an American soul, R&B, and funk band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1966. Originally, the group served as the backup band for Otis Redding before tragically perishing in a plane crash alongside the legendary singer in 1967. Despite the devastating loss, the Bar-Kays regrouped and continued to make music. The band achieved commercial success in the 1970s with hits like "Soul Finger" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk."
Throughout their career, the Bar-Kays have undergone various lineup changes but have maintained a strong presence in the music industry. Known for their energetic live performances and funky sound, the group has influenced countless artists and continues to be celebrated for their contributions to soul and funk music.
