The Bar-Kays are an American soul, R&B, and funk band formed in 1966 in Memphis, Tennessee. The group originally served as the backup band for soul singer Otis Redding before tragically losing several members in a plane crash that also claimed Redding's life in 1967. Despite this setback, the surviving members regrouped and continued to perform and record music. The Bar-Kays are known for their energetic live performances and their influential contributions to the funk genre.


The band has released numerous albums over the years and has had several hit songs, including "Soul Finger" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk." Their music has been sampled by many hip-hop artists, further solidifying their legacy in the music industry. The Bar-Kays continue to tour and perform to this day, showcasing their enduring talent and influence in the realm of soul and funk music.
