The Bar-Kays are an American soul, funk, and R&B band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1966. The original lineup included James Alexander, Ronnie Caldwell, Ben Cauley, Phalon Jones, Carl Cunningham, and Jimmy King. They gained fame as the backing band for Otis Redding and were on the same plane that tragically crashed in 1967, killing Redding and most members of the band.
After the tragic accident, The Bar-Kays reformed with new members and went on to achieve success with hits like "Soul Finger" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk." They have released numerous albums and singles over the years, showcasing their energetic and danceable sound that combines elements of funk, soul, and R&B. The Bar-Kays have had a lasting impact on the music industry and continue to perform and record music to this day.
