The Belle Stars were a British all-female band formed in London in 1980. The band's music style combined elements of new wave, pop, and ska, creating a unique sound that gained them popularity in the early 1980s. The original lineup consisted of lead vocalist Jennie Matthias, guitarists Stella Barker and Sarah-Jane Owen, bassist Lesley Shone, keyboardist Penny Leyton, drummer Judy Parsons, and saxophonist Miranda Joyce. The Belle Stars released their self-titled debut album in 1983, which included their hit single "Sign of the Times."
The band achieved commercial success with their energetic live performances and catchy songs, earning them a loyal fan base. However, internal conflicts and lineup changes led to the band disbanding in 1986. Despite their relatively short career, The Belle Stars left a lasting impact on the music scene of the 1980s and are remembered for their infectious and danceable tunes.
