The Blackbyrds were an American rhythm and blues and jazz-funk group formed in Washington, D.C. in 1973. The band was founded by jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd and featured several Howard University students as members. They were known for their fusion of jazz, funk, and soul music, which gained them popularity in the 1970s.
The Blackbyrds released several successful albums during the 1970s, including their self-titled debut album in 1974 and "Flying Start" in 1975. Their biggest hit was the single "Walking In Rhythm" from their debut album, which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band disbanded in the late 1970s but their music continues to be celebrated by fans of jazz-funk and soul music.
