Artist Bio:
The Bobbettes were an American girl group formed in 1955 in New York City. The original members were Jannie Pought, Emma Pought, Reather Dixon, Laura Webb, and Helen Gathers. They are best known for their hit song "Mr. Lee," which was released in 1957 and reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was written about their high school music teacher.
The Bobbettes were one of the first girl groups to achieve national success in the United States. They were known for their harmonious vocals and catchy songs that blended doo-wop and rhythm and blues influences. The group continued to record music throughout the 1960s, but they never matched the success of "Mr. Lee." The Bobbettes were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004 in recognition of their contributions to the music industry.
