The Bobbettes were a popular American girl group formed in 1955 in Harlem, New York. The original members were Jannie Pought, Emma Pought, Reather Dixon, Laura Webb, and Helen Gathers. They are best known for their hit song "Mr. Lee," which was released in 1957 and reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song's success helped establish the group as one of the early girl groups in the rock and roll era.


The Bobbettes continued to release music throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s, with other notable songs including "I Shot Mr. Lee" and "Have Mercy Baby." They disbanded in the mid-1960s but their music continued to influence and inspire future generations of girl groups. The Bobbettes are considered pioneers in the girl group genre and their music remains popular among fans of 1950s and 1960s music.
