Artist Bio:
The Box Tops were an American rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1967. The group was best known for their hit single "The Letter," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967. The song was written by Wayne Carson Thompson and became a signature tune for the band.
The Box Tops' lineup consisted of lead vocalist Alex Chilton, guitarist Gary Talley, bassist Bill Cunningham, drummer Danny Smythe, and keyboardist John Evans. The band's sound blended elements of rock, pop, and blue-eyed soul, and they were known for their tight, energetic performances. The Box Tops disbanded in 1970, but their music continues to be celebrated for its catchy melodies and Chilton's soulful vocals.
