The Byrds were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1964. They were pioneers of the folk-rock genre and were known for their tight harmonies and jangly guitar sound. The original lineup consisted of Jim McGuinn, Gene Clark, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke. They are best known for their hits such as "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Turn! Turn! Turn!," and "Eight Miles High."
The Byrds were influential in the development of psychedelic rock and country rock. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. The band went through various lineup changes over the years, with McGuinn being the only constant member. The Byrds disbanded in 1973 after several successful albums and singles.
