The Cars were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1976. The band consisted of members Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, and David Robinson. They gained popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s with their unique blend of new wave and rock music.
The Cars achieved mainstream success with their self-titled debut album in 1978, which included hit singles like "Just What I Needed" and "My Best Friend's Girl." They continued to release successful albums throughout the 1980s, with hits such as "Shake It Up," "Drive," and "You Might Think." The band disbanded in 1988 but reunited in 2010 for a brief period. The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
