The Cars were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1976. The band consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, lead guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, bassist Benjamin Orr, and drummer David Robinson. They were known for their blend of new wave and rock music, with catchy hooks and a polished sound.
The Cars achieved commercial success in the late 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl," and "Drive." They released six studio albums between 1978 and 1987, with their self-titled debut album reaching multi-platinum status. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The Cars disbanded in 1988, but their music continues to be influential in the rock and new wave genres.
