The Cars were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1976. The band consisted of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, lead guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, bassist Benjamin Orr, and drummer David Robinson. They achieved commercial success in the late 1970s and 1980s with their unique blend of new wave and rock music.
The Cars released several hit albums, including their self-titled debut album in 1978, which featured the popular singles "Just What I Needed" and "My Best Friend's Girl." Their other successful albums include "Candy-O" (1979), "Heartbeat City" (1984), and "Shake It Up" (1981). The band disbanded in 1988 but reunited briefly in 2010 for a new album and tour. The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
