The Cars were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1976. The band consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, lead vocalist and bassist Benjamin Orr, lead guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, and drummer David Robinson. They were pioneers of the new wave music movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The Cars achieved commercial success with their self-titled debut album in 1978, which included hits like "Just What I Needed" and "My Best Friend's Girl". They went on to release several successful albums, including "Candy-O" (1979), "Panorama" (1980), and "Heartbeat City" (1984). The band's unique sound, combining elements of rock, pop, and electronic music, earned them a dedicated fan base and multiple hit singles. The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
