The Champs were an American rock and roll band best known for their 1958 hit song "Tequila." The group was formed in Los Angeles, California, in the late 1950s and consisted of renowned session musicians including saxophonist Chuck Rio, guitarist Dave Burgess, pianist Gene Alden, and drummer Dash Crofts. "Tequila" was their biggest success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming a classic instrumental rock and roll anthem.
The Champs released several other singles after "Tequila," but none reached the same level of commercial success. Despite this, the band continued to perform and record music throughout the 1960s before disbanding in the early 1970s. The Champs' legacy lives on through their iconic hit song "Tequila," which remains a popular and recognizable tune in popular culture to this day.
