Artist Bio:
The Chantels were an American girl group formed in the late 1950s in New York City. They were one of the first and most successful female vocal groups of the doo-wop era. The original members were Arlene Smith, Sonia Goring, Rene Minus, Jackie Landry Jackson, and Lois Harris. They were known for their sweet harmonies and emotional lyrics that often focused on love and heartbreak.
The Chantels achieved success with their hit songs such as "Maybe" and "Look in My Eyes," both of which reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. They were also one of the first African American girl groups to cross over to the pop charts. The Chantels' influence can still be felt in the music industry today, as they paved the way for future female vocal groups.
