The Coasters were an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group that was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1955. The group's original members were Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Bobby Nunn, and Leon Hughes. They were known for their humorous and catchy songs, often characterized by their witty lyrics and playful vocal delivery.
The Coasters achieved commercial success in the late 1950s and early 1960s with hits such as "Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown," and "Poison Ivy." Their songs were produced by the songwriting and producing team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who helped define the group's sound. The Coasters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, recognizing their influence on the development of rock and roll music.
