The Contours were an American R&B and soul group formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1959. They are best known for their hit song "Do You Love Me," which was released in 1962 and became a major hit, reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has since become a classic and is considered one of the signature songs of the Motown sound.


The original lineup of The Contours included lead singer Billy Gordon, Joe Billingslea, Billy Hoggs, Billy Rollins, and Hubert Johnson. The group had several other minor hits throughout the 1960s, but "Do You Love Me" remains their most popular and enduring song. The Contours were known for their energetic performances and tight harmonies, and they were an important part of the Motown music scene during the 1960s.
