Artist Bio:
The Crests were an American doo-wop group formed in 1956 in New York City. The group is best known for their 1958 hit single "16 Candles," which reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The original members of The Crests included lead vocalist Johnny Mastrangelo, who later changed his name to Johnny Maestro, along with Patricia Van Dross, Harold Torres, and Talmoudge Gough. Their smooth harmonies and romantic lyrics were characteristic of the doo-wop genre that was popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

After leaving The Crests in 1961, Maestro went on to have a successful solo career and later formed a new group called Johnny Maestro & the Brooklyn Bridge. The Crests featuring Johnny Mastro is likely a reference to the original lead singer of The Crests, Johnny Maestro. The group may have been formed as a tribute to his legacy and to continue performing the classic doo-wop music that made The Crests famous.
