Artist Bio:
The Crests were an American R&B doo-wop group formed in 1956 in New York City. The group's members included JT Carter, Talmadge Gough, Harold Torres, Patricia Vandross, and Johnny Mastrangelo, who later became known as Johnny Maestro. They were known for their smooth harmonies and romantic ballads, and they achieved their greatest success in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The Crests are best known for their hit songs "16 Candles" and "Step by Step," which both reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group disbanded in 1962, but their music continues to be celebrated by fans of doo-wop and R&B music. Johnny Maestro went on to have a successful solo career and continued to perform with various incarnations of The Crests before his passing in 2010.
