The founding members of the band were Joe Sample on keyboards, Wilton Felder on saxophone, Stix Hooper on drums, and Wayne Henderson on trombone. Over the years, the lineup changed with various musicians joining and leaving the group.


The Crusaders were known for their pioneering work in jazz fusion, blending elements of jazz, R&B, and funk in their music. They achieved commercial success with albums such as "Chain Reaction" and "Street Life," which featured collaborations with artists like Randy Crawford. The group received several Grammy nominations and critical acclaim for their innovative sound and influential contributions to the jazz genre.
