The Crusaders were an American jazz fusion group that was formed in 1960. Originally known as the Jazz Crusaders, the group was founded in Houston, Texas, by pianist Joe Sample, trombonist Wayne Henderson, and tenor saxophonist Wilton Felder. Over the years, the group underwent various lineup changes and evolved their sound to incorporate elements of funk, R&B, and soul music.


The Crusaders achieved commercial success in the 1970s with albums like "Street Life" and "Unsung Heroes," which featured prominent collaborations with artists like Randy Crawford and B.B. King. The group was known for their tight musicianship, sophisticated compositions, and dynamic live performances. The Crusaders disbanded in the 1980s but left a lasting legacy in the world of jazz fusion and continue to be celebrated for their innovative approach to blending different musical genres.
