The Cryan' Shames gained popularity in the late 1960s with songs like "Sugar and Spice" and "It Could Be We're in Love." They released several albums including their debut album, "Sugar and Spice," in 1966, and "A Scratch in the Sky" in 1967. The band's lineup changed over the years, but original members Tom Doody, Jim Pilster, and Lenny Kerley were consistent fixtures. The Cryan' Shames disbanded in the early 1970s but reunited for occasional performances in later years.
