The Cult is a British rock band that was formed in 1983. The band was originally called Southern Death Cult before changing their name to Death Cult and eventually settling on The Cult. The group was formed by lead vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy. They achieved commercial success in the 1980s and 1990s with their hard rock sound infused with elements of post-punk and psychedelic rock.
The Cult released several successful albums, including their debut album "Dreamtime" in 1984, as well as "Love" (1985) and "Sonic Temple" (1989), which both achieved platinum status in the United States. Some of their most well-known songs include "She Sells Sanctuary," "Fire Woman," and "Love Removal Machine." The Cult has undergone various lineup changes over the years, with Astbury and Duffy being the core members of the band. They continue to tour and release new music, maintaining a dedicated fan base around the world.
