The Dells were an American R&B and doo-wop vocal group formed in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois. The group originally consisted of five members: Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, and Mickey McGill. They were known for their distinctive vocal harmonies and were one of the longest-lasting and most successful vocal groups in R&B history.
The Dells achieved their greatest success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits such as "Oh, What a Night," "Stay in My Corner," and "The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004. The Dells continued to perform and record music until 2012, when they officially retired after over five decades in the music industry.
