The group's original lineup consisted of Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, and Mickey McGill. They gained popularity in the 1960s with hits such as "Oh, What a Night," "Stay in My Corner," and "The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)." The Dells were known for their smooth harmonies and emotional vocal delivery, which set them apart from other groups of their era.


The Dells were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
