The Dells were an American R&B and doo-wop vocal group formed in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois. The group originally consisted of members Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, Mickey McGill, and Johnny Carter. Known for their smooth harmonies and emotionally powerful vocals, The Dells achieved their first major hit in 1956 with "Oh, What a Nite." Throughout their career, the group experienced several lineup changes but maintained a consistent sound that resonated with audiences.


In the 1960s and 1970s, The Dells continued to release successful singles like "Stay in My Corner" and "Give Your Baby a Standing Ovation." They were known for their dynamic stage performances and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. The Dells were influential in the development of soul music and left a lasting impact on the genre with their timeless music and vocal talent.
