The Dells were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois. The group originally consisted of founding members Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, and Mickey McGill. They were known for their smooth harmonies and intricate vocal arrangements, often blending elements of doo-wop, soul, and jazz in their music.
The Dells achieved their greatest success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Oh, What a Night," "Stay in My Corner," and "The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and continued to perform and record music until their final concert in 2012. The Dells are widely regarded as one of the most influential vocal groups in the history of R&B music, with a career that spanned over six decades.
