The Dells were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois. The group originally consisted of Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, Mickey McGill, and Lucius McGill. They were one of the longest-running and most successful R&B groups, with a career spanning over six decades. The Dells were known for their smooth vocal harmonies and emotionally powerful performances, which helped them become one of the most influential vocal groups in the history of R&B music.
Throughout their career, The Dells released numerous hit singles, including "Oh, What a Night," "Stay in My Corner," and "Give Your Baby a Standing Ovation." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. The Dells continued to perform and record music until the early 2010s when they officially retired from the music industry.
