The Dells were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois. The group originally consisted of five members: Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, and Mickey McGill. They were known for their harmonies and emotional vocal delivery, often categorized as doo-wop and soul music.
The Dells achieved their greatest success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Oh, What a Night," "Stay in My Corner," and "The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004. The Dells continued to perform and record music for over five decades, solidifying their legacy as one of the most influential vocal groups in R&B history.
