Initially known as The Five Crowns, the group underwent several lineup changes before settling on the name The Drifters in 1954. They were signed to Atlantic Records and achieved commercial success with hits like "Save the Last Dance for Me," "Under the Boardwalk," and "This Magic Moment."
The group's unique sound combined elements of rhythm and blues, soul, and gospel music. The Drifters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of R&B music.
