Artist Bio:
The Elgins were an American vocal group who achieved their greatest success in the 1960s. The group was originally formed as The Downbeats in Detroit, Michigan, in the late 1950s. They later changed their name to The Elgins after signing with Motown Records in 1962. The group's lineup included members such as Johnny Dawson, Cleo "Duke" Miller, and Norman McLean.
Their biggest hit came in 1966 with the song "Heaven Must Have Sent You," which reached number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song also became a popular choice in the Northern Soul scene in the UK. Despite their success, The Elgins never quite reached the same level of fame as some of their Motown labelmates. The group eventually disbanded in the late 1960s, but their music continues to be celebrated by fans of classic soul and Motown music.
