The group consisted of members John Buonavita, Phil DeCicco, Phil Castrodale, Joel Feldman, and Tony DeSantis. They are best known for their doo-wop and R&B music, characterized by tight harmonies and soulful vocals.
Their most popular song, "Coney Island Baby," was released in 1962 and became a regional hit. The Excels were part of the vibrant doo-wop scene in New York City during the early 1960s, performing at local clubs and theaters. While they never achieved mainstream commercial success, they remain a beloved part of the doo-wop genre's history.
