The group consisted of five siblings: Alohe Jean, Clarence Jr., James, Dennis, and Kenneth "Keni", and they were managed by their father Clarence Burke Sr. The group formed in 1965 and were known for their soulful harmonies and catchy pop hits.
Their biggest hit came in 1970 with the song "O-o-h Child," which reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Five Stairsteps were one of the first groups to be signed by the legendary Motown Records, and they released several albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s. They were considered a precursor to later family groups like The Jackson 5 and The Sylvers. The group disbanded in the late 1970s, but their music continues to be celebrated for its unique blend of soul, pop, and funk influences.
