The Flaming Ember was an American soul and R&B band formed in Detroit, Michigan in the 1960s. The group originally consisted of six members, including husband and wife dynamic duo Joe and Bill Ellis. They gained popularity with their hit single "Mind, Body and Soul" in 1969, which reached the Top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band continued to release music throughout the 1970s, with their songs often blending elements of funk, rock, and soul.


The Flaming Ember's most successful single, "Westbound #9," was released in 1970 and reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band eventually disbanded in the early 1980s after several lineup changes and a decline in commercial success.
