The Fleetwoods were an American singing group formed in Olympia, Washington in 1958. The trio consisted of Gary Troxel, Gretchen Christopher, and Barbara Ellis. They were known for their smooth vocal harmonies and achieved success in the late 1950s and early 1960s with hits like "Come Softly to Me" and "Mr. Blue."
Their debut single "Come Softly to Me" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959, making them the first group to have a number one hit with their first release. The Fleetwoods continued to have success with songs like "Mr. Blue" and "Tragedy" before disbanding in 1963. Despite their relatively short career, The Fleetwoods left a lasting impact on the music industry, influencing future generations of vocal groups with their distinctive sound.
