The Formations were an American soul group formed in 1962 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group consisted of members Jerry Akines, Reginald Turner, Bernard Murphy, and Skip Henderson. They are best known for their hit song "At the Top of the Stairs," which was released in 1968 and became a top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Formations were signed to the MGM label and released a few singles throughout the 1960s, but "At the Top of the Stairs" was their most successful song. The group eventually disbanded in the early 1970s. Despite their short-lived career, The Formations left a mark on the soul music scene with their catchy tunes and harmonious vocals.
