The band's original lineup consisted of three siblings: Jay "The Bird" Schreiber on guitar and vocals, Al Schreiber on bass, and Mark Schreiber on drums. They were known for their energetic live performances and catchy rock tunes, drawing influences from bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Furys released several singles in the mid-1960s, including "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" and "I'm Satisfied with You".
