The Gap Band was an American R&B and funk band formed in 1967 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group consisted of three brothers, Charlie Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, and Robert Wilson. They achieved mainstream success in the late 1970s and 1980s with their energetic funk sound and catchy hits. Some of their most popular songs include "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," "Outstanding," and "Burn Rubber on Me."
The Gap Band released a total of 15 studio albums between 1974 and 1999. They were known for their high-energy live performances and charismatic stage presence. The group's music has had a lasting impact on the funk and R&B genres, and they are considered pioneers of the Minneapolis sound, which combines funk, rock, and pop elements. The Gap Band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
