They were best known for their hit songs in the 1970s, including "Want Ads" and "Stick-Up." The group was signed to Hot Wax Records, a label founded by legendary songwriting and producing team Holland-Dozier-Holland.

"Want Ads" was a major success for The Honey Cone, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1971. The song also earned the group a gold record. The Honey Cone's music was a mix of soul, R&B, and pop, and their catchy tunes and powerful vocals made them a popular group during their time.
