Artist Bio:
The Impressions are an American music group originally formed in 1958. The group was initially founded as a doo-wop group called The Roosters, which included members Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gooden, Fred Cash, and Arthur Brooks. After some lineup changes, the group was renamed The Impressions. They are known for their smooth harmonies and socially conscious lyrics, blending elements of gospel, R&B, and soul music.
The Impressions achieved commercial success in the 1960s with hits such as "It's All Right," "People Get Ready," and "Keep on Pushing." Curtis Mayfield, one of the founding members, played a significant role as the group's primary songwriter and producer. The group's music often reflected the civil rights movement and inspired listeners with messages of hope and empowerment. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 for their influential contributions to soul music.
