The Impressions are an American music group that originated in Chicago in 1958. The group was originally formed as The Roosters by lead singer Jerry Butler, brothers Arthur and Richard Brooks, and Curtis Mayfield. They changed their name to The Impressions in 1958 and went on to become one of the most successful soul and R&B groups of the 1960s.
The Impressions are best known for their smooth harmonies and socially conscious lyrics. Their hits include songs like "People Get Ready," "Gypsy Woman," and "Keep on Pushing." The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and their music continues to be influential in the world of soul and R&B.
