The Impressions are an American music group originally formed in Chicago in 1958. The group was founded as The Roosters by Sam Gooden, Richard Brooks, and Arthur and Richard Brooks, and was later renamed The Impressions when Jerry Butler joined the group as lead vocalist. Their music is known for blending gospel, soul, and R&B influences, creating a unique sound that became popular during the 1960s.
The Impressions are perhaps best known for their hits such as "People Get Ready," "Keep on Pushing," and "Amen." Their music often carried social and political themes, reflecting the civil rights movement of the time. The group's smooth harmonies and socially conscious lyrics have made them influential in the development of soul music. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
