The Impressions are an American music group formed in Chicago in 1958. The group originally consisted of members Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gooden, Fred Cash, and Arthur and Richard Brooks. They were instrumental in the development of soul music and the Chicago soul sound in the 1960s.
The Impressions are best known for their hits such as "People Get Ready," "Keep on Pushing," and "Amen." Their music often incorporated social and political themes, reflecting the civil rights movement of the era. Curtis Mayfield, one of the founding members, was the primary songwriter and producer for the group. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, recognizing their significant contributions to the music industry.
