The original lineup consisted of lead singer Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gooden, Fred Cash, and Arthur and Richard Brooks. The group was known for their smooth harmonies and socially conscious lyrics, often addressing themes of love, unity, and civil rights.
The Impressions achieved commercial success in the 1960s with hits like "It's All Right," "People Get Ready," and "Keep on Pushing." Curtis Mayfield's songwriting and vocal talents played a significant role in the group's success. Their music has been influential in the development of soul and R&B music. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 in recognition of their contributions to the music industry.
