The Impressions are an American music group that originated in Chicago in 1958. The group was originally formed as The Roosters by Fred Cash, Sam Gooden, and brothers Richard and Arthur Brooks. They later changed their name to The Impressions and added lead singer Jerry Butler. The group is known for their soulful vocal harmonies and their influential role in the development of soul music.
Throughout the 1960s, The Impressions released a series of successful singles, including "For Your Precious Love," "It's All Right," and "People Get Ready." They were also known for their socially conscious lyrics, addressing issues such as civil rights and black empowerment. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and their music continues to be celebrated for its lasting impact on the soul and R&B genres.
